Company History
CHRONOS VISION was founded in 1998 by Dr. Baartz and Prof. Dr. Clarke as a spin-off from the Free University of Berlin. Their goal was to solve complex issues in medicine and industry through the use of advanced technologies and fast image processing.
Pioneering work in image processing and space technology
The founders’ many years of experience as experimenters and developers of measurement technology for space-specific experiments opened the possibility to realize a technologically completely new concept for a head-mounted eye tracking system to conduct research in space. In 2004, the developed ETD system was installed on the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the ESA DELTA mission, where it was first used by Dutch astronaut André Kuipers, scientifically supported by Prof. Dr. Clarke.

Use of the C-ETD system in global research
Alongside its use on the ISS, leading scientists worldwide from neurology and balance research used the C-ETD system for their research and development.

Technological advancement with the OneK+
In 2010, the C-ETD system was succeeded by the OneK+ as the second generation of eye trackers. The OneK+ eye tracker was based on proprietary on-chip technology and again set technological standards with impressively low latency and tracking rates above 1000 Hz.

Innovative evolution with the DeyeRECTOR
The new DeyeRECTOR Eye Tracker is the third generation of eye tracking systems from CHRONOS VISION. With new hardware and the revised DeyeRECTOR Software Suite, it forms the basis for current and future customer-specific solutions that require very fast and low-latency eye tracking components.

Leading in medical technology and quality
Our medical expertise in balance research and ophthalmology drives innovative product developments in medical technology. This ensures decisive competitive advantages for our customers, especially in areas such as refractive and cosmetic surgery.
To meet our own and our customers’ quality requirements, we introduced a quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 13485 as a medical device manufacturer in 2010. This QM system has been continuously optimized and adapted to our products. Although maintaining the certification was paused in 2024, this does not affect the established processes and documentation requirements within the company. Optimized workflows and standardized processes continue to ensure consistently high quality and customer satisfaction.
